March Featured Race: Houston Sprint

WHAT

Get off the couch and get muddy. This year’s Houston Sprint is a Spartan Sprint for the books. The three-mile course may be the shortest Spartan race, but it is definitely more than a walk in the park. The perfect distance for new and experienced participants alike, the race features up to 23 different obstacles for you and your team to journey through. Whether you’re jumping over walls or shimmying through pits of mud, you’ll be having fun and moving your body.

Starting your team is easy. Just grab as many friends and family members as you’d like! You can make your team any size but must have at least four members for inclusion in team rankings. The easiest way to ensure your team all has the same start time is to create it at registration. This way, you can make sure everyone has the same start time and age group. Once you create your team, it will be harder to make sure any stragglers receive the same start time as you.

HOUSTON Spartan SprintDon’t forget to bring some spectators. After all, you’ll want someone cheering you along from the sidelines. They can coax you along as you conquer obstacles and then meet you at the finish line to watch you receive your medal. Music, raffles, challenges and other entertainment options are available for spectators so that they’ll have plenty of fun as they wait for you to start your raise. Every spectator receives five Spartan bucks to use at the merchandise tent!

Gates open at 6:00 a.m. on the day of the race, so be sure to get there early to warm up. Racing begins at 7:30 a.m. with racers released in waves of about 250 people every 15 minutes. Registration is open now so don’t wait!

WHAT ELSE?

Racers receive a medal, a t-shirt, free professional photos and a beer at the finish line. Bring your ID, your printed and signed waiver, your printed barcode, and an extra towel and set of clothes. Please ask your spectators to keep all outside food and drink, as well as pets, at home.

Houston Spartan Sprint ObstaclesWhen the race is over, be sure to check out nearby activities. The ranch itself features horseback riding, and nearby Houston offers indoor rock climbing, pub crawls and a range of other activities. More than 11,000 restaurants and an active nightlife scene means you’ll have plenty of fun well into the night.

Some of the most popular nearby attractions include Texas Rock Gym, Edward’s IMAX Theatre, Improv Comedy Club and Houston Premium Outlet Mall. The Kemah Boardwalk and Schlitterbahn’s Waterpark in Galveston are less than an hour away. Don’t forget to book a hotel so you can wash up and take a nap between activities!
