April Featured Race: San Diego Beach and Bay Half, 5k & 8k

What 

Drink in the beauty of Southern California while engaging in fitness with the San Diego Beach & Bay Half Marathon, 5K & 8K. If you loathe the hills, then you’ll be relieved to hear that this course is flat but contains plenty of scenery to take in – the starting elevation is just at 12 feet above sea level with a max elevation of 38 feet.

San Diego Beach and Bay Half, 5k & 8kThe course for each race starts and finishes near Fiesta Island, and the marathon winds by famous destinations including Crown Point, Sail Bay, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Belmont Park and Sea World! Pace groups are available to help runners finish within the 3.5-hour limit.

Race-day registration and bib pick up starts at 5:00 a.m. on April 14, but runners are highly encouraged to pick up their packets at the Expo at Road Runner Sports, located at 5553 Copley Drive, beforehand on Friday, April 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  You must have a photo ID and signed waiver to get your bib. If you are picking up a packet for another runner, you will need their photo ID and waiver.

The half marathon begins at 6:30 a.m. while the 5K and 8K start at 7:15 a.m. The Beer Garden opens at the finish line at 8:00 a.m., and that is also when the awards are presented for the 5K and 8K. Half marathon awards are presented at 9:00 a.m. and age group awards at 10:00 a.m. All racers receive a shirt and bib with their runner packet, and finisher’s medals are awarded at the finish line. The time limit for the half marathon is 3.5 hours, and runners must maintain a pace of 16 minutes per mile.

Remember there is still fun to be had once you cross that finish line! Enjoy the festival with local vendors, food, beer and live music. You even get a free beer coupon.

Before the race, be sure to enjoy the Runners Expo located at Road Runner Sports. You will find all kinds of amazing deals on a variety of running gear and more. The city of San Diego has all kinds of fun activities for the family to enjoy, so get out and have some fun at one of the many amusement parks or museums in the area, or even the famous San Diego Zoo! The race courses show you just a fraction of what the City in Motion has to offer.

Strollers are permitted for the 5K and 8K runs but are not allowed in the half marathon. Likewise, for the half marathon, no unauthorized strollers, vehicles, bicycles or wheelchairs are allowed. Pets are not permitted in any of the races, so please arrange for their proper care while you are racing.
