I love GOALS because after you choose a target, you get to plan out the best path to get there. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to choose a path that aligns with your goal. It’s hard to find motivation on the path to success if the road is lined with overexertion and deprivation. Be sure that the PURSUIT of your goal gives you the life you are dreaming of. The journey itself should be the reward.
I love the competitive runner’s lifestyle! I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, AND LOVE IT!
To me, FUN is going to bed early and getting up at the crack of dawn to kick ass on a hard tempo run, a speed workout or, my favorite, a long run with several pick-up miles. I love fueling my body with nutritious food that helps keep me functioning as a lean, mean running machine. I enjoy reading books about running and books that inspire because they help me push beyond my limits.
I LOVE THE JOURNEY I HAVE CHOSEN! If, during this journey, I reach my dream goal, that will be the cherry on top of this already amazing sundae.
TIP: Set goals based on the JOURNEY you desire, not only the end results. If your happiness and success is totally wrapped up in the destination and the path is no fun to you, your life is going to be miserable. A goal should not only be the finish line, but the entire trek; so pick out a trek in a beautiful setting with supportive friends. Choose the process that makes every day feel like an awesome adventure.
If you love what you’re doing it won’t feel like you are sacrificing anything – you will feel excited about each day. You had better enjoy the process or you’re less likely to achieve your goals. Thankfully, I freaking LOVE the process!! Every aspect of my journey — from the running, training and exercises to the healthy nutrition and friendships — makes me feel strong and alive, and it offers me a daily sense of accomplishment.
It is so important to not only set a goal, but to set up an enjoyable process to get there. What is your Dream Goal? What enjoyable steps can you take to make your journey more fun and exciting?
Keep on Believing, Keep on Running and Keep it Fun,
SL
