Run through the historic mining district’s challenging old mining roads and trails, and hit a high of 13,185 feet at Mosquito Pass during the Leadville Trail Marathon or Heavy Half Marathon. The views will leave you breathless, if you’re not already. The marathon will mark its 18th year in 2019, while the Heavy Half will mark its 14th.
JUNE 22nd, WELCH MN
Spartans are taking over the Welch Village Ski Resort in Welch, Minnesota — located less than an hour outside the Twin Cities. This Spartan Sprint, covering 3-5 miles, promises to test racers with a good mixture of 20+ obstacles, challenging ski slopes and hills, and no shortage of early morning fog, mud, water, and wind. Make no mistake, even the bunny hills become quad-searing challenges.
The converted ski resort plays well into creating a tough course with wide pathways that allow Spartans to separate from the crowd as they sprint from obstacle to obstacle. Don’t miss out on the chance to take Welch Village’s natural beauty adorned with towering pine trees and rolling hills.
JUNE 29th, LUTSEN MN
Start at Lutsen Ski Resort, in Minnesota’s Sawtooth Mountains overlooking majestic Lake Superior, as we begin a fantastic Category 3 climb. Once over the ridgeline, the course takes advantage of the glacially sculpted terrain, rolling hills, and numerous lakes and streams at the southern range of the Boreal Forest. You will be riding on sections of road and trail that see as much moose traffic as people traffic at any given time.
