May Featured Race: Austin Spartan Sprint

What

The Austin Sprint is more than just a running race. Located in the bucolic and rolling Texas Hill Country on Reveille Peak Ranch just outside Austin, this Texan Spartan Race offers you and your friends a chance to conquer the Texas landscape on a course that covers three to five miles of cacti, creek beds and boulders incorporated into up to 23 obstacles.

The Sprint distance, the shortest Spartan distance offered, is the perfect starting point for adventure-race newcomers who may be nervous about completing such a challenging course. For past participants, rest assured you’ll never run the same route twice as organizers take full advantage of the 62 miles of trails at the ranch to make sure every race’s course is an exciting new combination of challenges.

What exactly is an obstacle? Come and find out! You can expect to tackle traditional barriers like rope climbing, heavy carries and low crawls under barbed wire alongside natural obstacles like rock climbing, water wading and single-track downhill scrambles. Get ready to push yourself, get dirty and have fun.

What Else?

Many things make this event special, but one of the most alluring is the opportunity to camp at our primitive campsite the night before your race. Ease your race-day logistics and get to know other participants under the stars and open Texas sky. Some of Austin’s famous food trucks will be on hand for your culinary needs.

On race day, waves of starters are released based on registered level and the number of participants, with elite men and women starting at 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. respectively. Seeded age group racers will start from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and additional waves will be released every fifteen minutes throughout the morning and afternoon. The exact start time for your registered group will be posted several days before the event.

There are no feed stations on the course. You are responsible for bringing and carrying all your food and water needs. Most participants recommend a hydration pack stocked with fuel for the race. You’ll also want to bring a towel and a set of clean, dry clothes to change into after the event.

All finishers will receive a customizable Badass Sprint Finishers Medal, a trifecta wedge and a finisher t-shirt to replace your dirty race shirt. You’ll also get free beer and refreshments at the finish line, including bananas and protein bars. About a week after the Sprint, you’ll have online access to free professional photos of your monumental effort and accomplishment.

After completing the Sprint event, you’ll be one-third of your way towards the Spartan Trifecta, which includes finishing the more extended events, the Super and the Beast. Start your adventure race journey by joining a Texan Spartan Race!
