June Featured Race: Hospital Hill Run

What

The Hospital Hill Run celebrates health and healthy living through a partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Health Sciences District. This year’s race is scheduled for June 2, 2018 and takes runners through a course that showcases the various healthcare facilities and systems in Kansas City. This is the oldest running event in the city with this being its 45th year.

The race focuses on providing participants the ability to work with the participating medical facilities to get tips and assistance preparing for the race. During the race, medical personnel are on site to help with any medical needs that arise.

The race features three different runs: 5k, 7.7-mile and half marathon. The 5k is held Friday night with the other two races taking place on Saturday morning. The half marathon is known as the Hospital Hill Run Re-Run because many runners participate in the 5k on Friday and this run on Saturday. Race festivities last the whole weekend. There is a health and fitness expo, post race parties and a pasta party.

The course is the same with start and finish lines in front of Crown Center on Grand Boulevard. The half marathon course takes runners throughout the city to explore its many sites and attractions. Runners will pass by The Plaza, the UMKC Campus, The Kansas City Star, the Sprint Center, the Power & Light District, the Brookside Neighborhood, Hospital Hill, The National World War I Museum and Memorial and the Broadway Business District.

Runners begin north to Pershing on Grand Boulevard North and head north to Truman Boulevard at 7:00 a.m. Once on Truman, they will begin a series of turns that take them in every direction to follow along the race course route. The course must be finished in under three hours and 30 minutes for an official finish. Finishers get a medal and the opportunity for age group awards.
