Randy Kam – Inspirational Blogger – Aug. 2015

Randy Kam grew up in Hawaii and came to California to attend college. He started running for stress relief after he started dental school at USC in 1979.

He ran his first marathon at 29 and didn’t yet catch the “running bug”.

In 1998, at age 41, he decided to dip his toe into the marathon waters for a second time and entered the San Diego Rock ’n Roll Marathon after hearing about the cool music and jubilant vibe so many runners spoke about. He finished with a time of 4 hours, 7 minutes, still his personal best.

Now, Kam had gotten a deep bite by the “marathon bug” and completed 50 marathons across the U.S. before he turned 50. Kam ran his 100th marathon in 2012.

He then set his sites on the bold goal of running 200 marathons, and while in the midst of this incredible this journey he found out that he had Stage IV cancer with metastases to the lymph nodes – prostrate cancer – in October of 2014.

Kam is a great example us all to keep on fighting and keep pushing forward, no matter what we are up against.
