Ryan Light – Guest Blogger

Ryan Light started to run after a very stressful time in his life. He suffered most of his life with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), panic, and anxiety. He tried everything from diets, vitamins, and conventional medicines – nothing worked. A friend of his in his late 30s, who also suffered from some of the same types of ailments as Ryan did, started running. At first Ryan had thought he was crazy, and thought he himself could never do such a thing. After a while, however, Ryan did see some changes in himself and thought, “Huh, maybe this running thing could help me with my issues as well.”

Meanwhile another friend of Ryan’s also in his late 30s started to run as well. One weekend he asked Ryan to to jump on his bike and ride along side of him for his 18-miler, which Ryan did. After seeing his friend accomplish such a feat, and how he looked and felt, convinced Ryan that he was going to try this running thing out. And he is glad he did. Running saved Ryan’s life – literally. He was at the bottom with his OCD, panic, and anxiety. Running gave him a new found adventure, a goal, an escape so to speak. It’s been four years since Ryan took his first run…and he hasn’t looked back. Currently, Ryan has run over 40 half marathons, two full marathons, and countless amounts of 5Ks & 10Ks – loving every minute of it. He’s made some outstanding friends, overcame challenges, which he thought he never could; and best of all John found a passion in life!
