May Featured Race: TD Five Boro Bike Tour

What

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is a 40-mile ride that takes cyclists through five famous New York boroughs. Participants start in Lower Manhattan at Franklin Street and Church Street, then continue through The Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. Toward the end, racers will experience the challenge of riding up and then down the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to the finish on Staten Island. There will be plenty of physically demanding challenges as well as photo opportunities throughout.

Cyclists receive plenty of support along the route, including medical attention, water stations, recycling and composting bins, marshals and NYPD support, and information tents at every rest area. Those who are planning ahead may even download the race route to their phones using the Strava app.

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is sponsored by Bike New York, a nonprofit organization that focuses on bicycle safety, education, and encouragement for children and adults throughout the five boroughs. Purchases of official merchandise at the Finish Festival go toward the organization’s bike education programs.

Packet pickup is available at Bike Expo New York located at Pier 36 at Basketball City – 299 South Street. Pickup is available on May 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or on May 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The expo is closed on Sunday, so packet pickup will not be available. You must bring the barcode that was emailed to you in the week before the Tour to pick up your packet. Proxy packet pickup is available with a valid photo ID and a copy of the ID of the individual you are picking up the packet for. There is a maximum of five proxy pickups for a single individual. Adults may also pick up the packet for the youth registered to their name.

What Else?

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is for any cyclist age 3 or older. All riders are required to wear helmets during the race. Headphones and earbuds are not allowed for safety reasons, though NYC law says riders may wear one earbud.

At the finish line on Staten Island, supporters and racers alike can enjoy the Finish Festival, which will feature plenty of local food vendors, music, entertainment, and giveaways. The reunion area is also near the finish line, and this where family and friends can meet up with the cyclists. Don’t forget to explore the rest of New York at your leisure in the days leading up to and following the race.

Currently, standard registration is closed for the TD Five Boro Bike Tour 2018, but there is still time to get in on the biggest charity bike ride in the U.S.! Interested cyclists may still register under the VIP category or participate in a charity ride through one of the listed partners of the Tour.
